Goa's many beaches are popular whatever the time of year, although for sun lovers, the summer sunshine offers the perfect weather for water sports and some serious sunbathing. However, the climate in May is often too hot for even the most hardened of tourists, with highs of 35°C / 95°F or more. Also worth noting, the sea can become a little too rough for swimming between April and May.

The arrival of the monsoon season in Goa is welcomed by the locals, with many celebrations taking place all over the state and beyond. Goa's monsoon weather starts in June and cools things down a little, although rarely putting too much of a dampener on the day, with the rains being most likely to fall during the afternoon and this weather lasts until early September. Much of Goa closes to tourism during the monsoon period, although if you are choosing to avoid the crowds and look for cheap accommodation, this may be a good time to visit.

During the monsoon, the landscape around Goa is transformed, becoming lush and green. When the monsoon season has ended, the climate in Goa becomes especially pleasant and less humid, with fine blue skies and plenty of sunny weather, which rarely feels oppressive.

Those who appreciate a cooler climate should consider visiting Goa anytime between November and March. Although the daytime highs are still often above 30°C / 86°F, temperatures soon drop sharply as evening approaches, so make sure to bring a jacket. October heralds the start of the tourist season in Goa and even the main beaches and resorts are often quite uncrowded for a while. Late December becomes especially busy and features plenty of sunny weather, when many people choose to spend their Christmas day on one of Goa's beaches.
